There has been no mention of the new ADI part 2 test fee changing in December.

Is the pass mark changing for the new ADI part 2 test in December?

It is believed that the ADI part 2 test pass mark will remain unchanged.

What are the changes to the ADI part 2 test?

1. The independent drive

This will be 20 minutes.

2. The use of a sat nav

During the independent drive the Supervising Examiner (SE) will most likely ask the Potential Driving Instructor (PDI) to follow directions given by a TomTom Start 52 sat nav. One in 5 ADI part 2 test candidates may be asked to follow road signs and markings instead of using a sat nav.

The Supervising Examiner (SE) will provide the TomTom Start 52 sat nav which will have built in pre-programmed ADI part 2 test routes to follow. However, whilst doing ADI part 2 training with a driving instructor trainer or practicing privately, you may use any form of sat nav.

As with the existing ADI part 2 test, you may ask the Supervising Examiner (SE) to confirm directions if you're not sure where you're going.

3. The manoeuvres

You'll be asked to do two of the following;

  • parallel park at the side of the road
  • reverse into a parking bay and drive out
  • drive into a parking bay and reverse out
  • pull up on the right, reverse two car lengths

Reverse bay parking will be done at the driving test centre and forward bay parking will be done elsewhere!

4. Emergency stop

The emergency stop will be done on 1 in 3 ADI part 2 tests

5. The show and tell

You'll be asked 3 'tell me' questions at the start of the ADI part 2 test before driving, and 2 'show me' questions whilst on the move. (5 total)

ADI part 2 'show me, tell me' questions and answers

Note: Much like with the new practical driving test. Should you fail to do any of the 'show me' ones safely, you be given a dangerous fault which will result in you failing your ADI part 2 test of driving ability.

Are there any other changes to the new ADI part 2 test?

As far as we know these are the only possible changes to the ADI part 2 test. Should we be made aware of any others, will we update this page to include them. We recommend that you bookmark this page and check back often over the coming months!

Are there any changes to the DL25 driving test report form?

Yes. The ADI part 2 test of driving ability will include the two new manoeuvres of parking forwards into a parking bay and reversing out. And, pulling up on the right, reversing two car lengths and rejoining the left. Forward park has been added to section 8 on the new ADI part 2 - DL25 driving test report form.

Why are some of the old manoeuvres still on the DL25?

As with the new practical driving test. You may take a wrong turn and have to reverse around a corner or do a turn in the road. The examiner will assess and mark this as they currently do. Our source at the DVSA has informed us that, if you do have to turn the car around, it may be classed as one of the two manoeuvres. However, this has not yet been confirmed!
